You’ll learn the foundational techniques of alcohol ink art — how to guide the flow, build soft gradients, create blooms, and work with movement rather than against it. Everything is beginner-friendly and intuitive.

Will I learn specific styles?
Yes. We’ll explore three signature styles:

Do I need any art experience?
Not at all. Alcohol ink is incredibly forgiving and playful — it meets you exactly where you are. I’ll guide you step by step, and you’ll be surprised by how beautiful your pieces become.

Will I learn how to control the ink?
Yes — you’ll learn simple ways to guide, soften, and shape the ink using air, blending solution, tools, and movement. And just as importantly, you’ll learn when to let the ink lead, which is part of the magic.

Will we talk about color?
Absolutely. You’ll learn how to choose palettes that feel harmonious, how to layer colors, and how to create depth through light, transparency, and contrast.

Can I recreate these techniques at home?
Yes — everything we do is accessible and repeatable. I’ll share tips for materials, surfaces, sealing your work, and creating a simple home setup if you want to keep exploring.

Alcohol inks may have a light alcohol scent, similar to hand sanitizer, and it fades quickly as they dry. Most people find it very mild and not overwhelming.

We’ll be working in a well-ventilated space, and I’ll show you simple ways to use the inks safely and comfortably. If you’re sensitive, you’re welcome to take breaks or step back anytime — the pace is gentle and flexible. Masks are also available.

The workshop takes place at the Rockslide Gallery - 780 Blanshard street, at the corner of Fairfield road and Blanshard street. There is meter parking on the street, and various paid lots within a few blocks of the workshop location.
